Abstract

The basic science of cerebrovascular disease is a very extensive topic and exceeds the scope of this article. Below we will focus on specific aspects of vascular neurosurgery where animal models of both the disease pathobiology as well as treatment have come to play a significant part. These include subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and the associated early and delayed brain injury, as well as the biology of cerebral aneurysm formation and growth.
