Abstract

Gingivitis is an inflammatory disease of the gums characterized by reversible changes in periodontal tissues without destruction of the alveolar bone and disruption of the dentoalveolar junction. According to epidemiological studies, various forms of gingivitis occur in 80-100% of the adult population, making this pathology one of the most common in dentistry. The relevance of the problem of treating gingivitis is due not only to its high prevalence but also to the potential possibility of progressing to periodontitis - a destructive periodontal disease that leads to tooth loss. Modern studies show that 15-20% of patients with untreated gingivitis develop signs of periodontitis within 5-7 years.
