Abstract

Cryptorchidism (from Greek "kryptos" - hidden, "orchis" - testicle) is a congenital anomaly in which the testicle is not lowered into the scrotum and is in its normal descent path or in an ectopic position. This is one of the most common congenital malformations of the genitourinary system in boys, occurring with a frequency of 1-3% among full-term newborns and up to 30% among premature infants.
