Abstract

With increasing life expectancy in modern society, the problem of age-related diseases is becoming urgent, among which cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cognitive disorders occupy an important place. The article discusses the key pathogenetic mechanisms of cognitive impairment in elderly people with various cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, chronic heart failure, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). The concept of diagnosis of chronic cerebral ischemia is highlighted and the prospects of the main therapeutic approaches aimed at improving cognitive functions in patients with CVD and type 2 diabetes are discussed. The spectrum of action and clinical effects of the drug Cereton (choline alfoscerate) are also analyzed in detail in this category of patients.
