The presence of brackets, bands, and archwires facilitates plaque accumulation and impairs effective oral hygiene, leading to prolonged acidic challenges on the enamel surface. This process results in mineral loss from the enamel structure and commonly manifests as white spot lesions, which may compromise dental aesthetics and increase susceptibility to dental caries. Several factors, including treatment duration, oral hygiene status, dietary habits, and salivary properties, influence the severity and progression of enamel demineralization. Early detection and preventive strategies—such as fluoride application, use of remineralizing agents, patient education, and regular professional monitoring—play a crucial role in minimizing enamel damage and enhancing long-term treatment outcomes. Understanding the mechanisms, risk factors, and prevention of post-orthodontic enamel demineralization is essential for improving the quality and effectiveness of orthodontic care.
