Coronary heart disease (CHD) remains one of the most pressing issues in modern cardiology and is the leading cause of mortality and disability among the adult population worldwide. According to WHO data, ischemic heart disease leads to 7.4 million deaths annually worldwide (13% of total mortality), while developing countries are seeing a steady increase in the incidence and prevalence of coronary heart disease.
