Abstract

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable disease that destroys the cells that transmit motor nerve impulses. As a result, muscles stop receiving commands from the brain, gradually weaken and atrophy. Over time, more and more motor neurons are involved in the process, which leads to paralysis of the limbs, body, swallowing disorders and respiratory arrest.
