Abstract

Over recent decades, the etiopathogenic view of tic disorders has shifted dramatically. Once interpreted mainly through psychological and behavioral frameworks, tics are now understood as multifactorial conditions with genetic, immunological, neurochemical, and environmental determinants. In children, tic disorders represent a heterogeneous set of neurodevelopmental syndromes characterized by recurrent, involuntary motor and/or vocal phenomena that may significantly disrupt academic performance, social functioning, and family life.
